“No, you haven’t interrupted anything. We were just finishing up.”
The blonde woman gave her a small smile. Alana noticed that it didn’t reach her eyes.
“That’s good,” she said without breaking eye contact. The woman strolled forward.
“Oh, I’m sure it will be when I see him later tonight.”
“What is Alana doing outside the apartment?” Caine snapped as Nolan came toward him.
“She said she wanted to talk to you man. I met her as I was coming back to the apartment. Who was that?”
“Her name is Victoria. And she’s-”
“A vampyre. Yeah, I got that vibe. Don’t usually see them on this side of town. How the fuck did they know about you?”
“Good question. How does everyone keep finding me?” Caine rubbed his forehead before he looked down at the wiggling bundle in Nolan’s hands.
“What have you got there?”
“A pup.”
“One of ours?”
Nolan bit back his grin. He didn’t even think that Caine realized how quickly he had fallen in as a member of the pack. “I don’t think so. Word would have gotten to Greg if one of ours was missing.”
“How many packs live within a hundred mile radius?”
“Four. But only two that are loyal to Ethan.”
“Maybe someone should contact them to see if a pup has gone missing. Since when are pups able to fully transform like this?”
“Only our pack I thought. I’ll have Greg put out feelers.”
“Thanks.”
The pup continued to wiggle until Nolan set him down then he promptly raced over to Caine, tripping over his feet in the process. Laughing, Caine bent down and picked him.
“Dude, if you two are going to go at it I insist on breaking out the body oil,” Nolan said as the squeezed past Victoria to shove quarters into the pinball machine. Victoria glared at him.
“Mutt. He’s even worse than Ulrich.”
“Don’t talk about him,” Alana snapped. The woman slowly turned her head to look at her. They stared at each other in silence for several moments.
Alana’s skin began to crawl and it felt as if her bones were stretching and starting to shift.
“Oh! Have I upset the poor female Lycan? Dear, dear. I apologize. Don’t bite off more than you can chew half-breed,” she hissed under her breath as she brushed past her.
“Something, or someone, just might bit back.”
The door closed behind her and Alana turned to watch her walk down the sidewalk. As if she felt her eyes on her the woman turned, winked and gave a broad grin before she turned and walked away.
Alana blinked. And then she blinked again. She did not just see fangs. She didn’t!
Caine hid a grin as he bent to put the puppy down. Alana probably didn’t know it but she just won her first pissing contest.
“Who do you belong to pup and what are you doing on this side of town?” he whispered as he petted its head. It licked his fingers. “And why won’t you change back?”
He stood with a sigh. The last thing he needed was another complication but it looked as if he had one. And another one was coming right toward him.
“Hold the phone! No one said anything about vampires.”
“That’s vampryes. With a Y.”
“I don’t care if it was vampires with an A, E, I, O or U. We didn’t talk about that.”
“Alana…if Lycans exist why would you think vampyres didn’t?”
“I-I don’t know. She was walking during the day though!”
“She’s pretty old school. Has to be a few centuries old.”
“A few…a few centuries old?”
“Uh huh.”
“Oh well I’m happy you’re taking this so well. Next you’re going to tell me Nessie exists!”
Caine frowned. “Who’s Nessie?”
“The Loch Ness monster!”
“Oh. ” He rolled his eyes. “Of course the Loch Ness monster doesn’t exist.”
She stared at him for a moment before she buried her face in her hands. “I think I’m having a nervous breakdown.”
Caine stared at her with a horrified look on his face before he stepped forward and awkwardly wrapped his arms around her.
“There, there,” he said patting her on the back.
“There, there?” She gave a watery laugh as she leaned her forehead against his shoulder.
“That’s the best I got.”
“Haven’t done this very often have you?”
“If, by this, you mean comforting a woman fuck no.”
She laughed again and he slowly rested his cheek against her head. “I hate to break the mood but I gotta ask.”
She stiffened against him. “Ask what?”
“Are we having a moment?”
There was a heartbeat of silence and then she leaned back to look up at him. “Yes. Yes, I think we are.”

Soooo….I had to goggle that. *is a geek* Apparently it’s common for babies born vaginally not to be born breathing. Not ALL of them though. And since the concept freaks me out I like Alana’s thinking better!
LOL!! It’s not a kid, it’s a pup. If it was a kid he’d freak out!(Even though he’d probably be great with kids!) Facial and body structure. The legs would have been a dead give away seeing as how wolves knees(or elbows depending) turn inward and their paws turn outward. And the unconscious sounds Julius were making was probably what drew Nolan.

LOL!! See I’m never having kids I don’t have that worry! Yeah man! Some moms were like my kids came out breathing and some moms were freaking out(rightly so) because they weren’t breathing. Then I went to some nursing sites and the nurses were saying the same thing. And then to verify all that I called my gram(should have done THIS first) who used to be a nurse and worked with babies in the neonatal unit and she said it varies from baby to baby. Some are, some aren’t. *shrug* The whole process is just weird to me! Well…not the WHOLE process!!
Haha!! As in like the sounds he didn’t realize he was making. I probably should have said: The sounds he was unconsciously making. I imagine it was probably little whimpers and yips and he was sniffing down the sidewalk getting sensory overload. He’s not used to being in that body.
