“No!” Yanking away from him she walked to the edge of the building and peered down. “I’m comfortable here Duncaine! I enjoy my job, I had a house, and this city,” she jabbed a finger downward, “although it’s a cesspool, is still my home. My home! And you want me to what? What do you want from me?”
“Just take a little vacation. I know you have days right? You need to lay low. We need to lay low.”
“Why?” she demanded.
Caine threaded his hands through his hair. “Because there are people out there who would want to hurt you.”
“Why would they want to hurt me? I’m nothing. No one.”
“You’re a fertile female. And by hurting you they would hurt me.”
She shook her head. “I’m sure they’re are a hundred fertile women walking the streets of Hillcrest. And we don’t have that type of relationship. There is no way-”
“I’m the Alpha of the pack here. Ethan, the man who is supposed to be looking for me, to help me, is the man who killed my father. He would use you to cement his place. And by use I mean he would pimp you out. Fertile females are valuable to a pack.”
“This is…this is just crazy. I don’t believe it.”
Caine tilted his head. “Yes, you do. Otherwise you’d be flipping out.”
“In case you haven’t noticed this is my flipping out.”
“No, I’ve seen you flip out. Hell, I’ve felt you flipped out.” He touched his ribs in memory. “This is you being upset but…you believe me. You just don’t want to. Which one of your parents was pack?”
“I don’t know! Look, this is insane. This whole conversation is insane! So you’re saying that I’m a Lycan? Every month I’ll change and howl at the full moon?”
“Myths. Change occurs whenever we want it to. Look, we’ll talk about that later. Right now-”
“No! I want to talk about it now! You made me this way.”
“Look, I didn’t make you drug me and drag me back to your house. What was I supposed to do when I woke up in a strange place? I trusted you and you broke that trust when you did that. Instinct took over.”
“Are you saying,” she said as she took a step forward, ” that I brought this on myself?”
“Well…huh-”
“Well, are you?”
He watched as she stalked toward him. “Wait! Don’t hit me! Jesus, I sound like a pussy!”
She stopped in her track. “What?”
“You have that look in your eyes again. The one that means you were thinking about hitting me. I’ve seen the signs way too many times. I just can’t believe that I sounded like a chick when I said not to hit me.”
She tilted her head and took a step closer. There was something about her walk that put him on edge. Taking a deep breath he froze. Her anger had morphed into something else. Motherfucker! She was about to be in heat. He knew it was bad timing but he couldn’t help his body reaction as she stepped into his arms.
“Caine, I know there’s something that you’re not telling me.” Her voice had taken on a husky quality as she trailed her fingers over his shoulder blades. Not being able to help himself Caine wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer against his straining erection. This situation was so not good but it felt absolutely wonderful to have her in his arms.
“There’s a lot that I haven’t told you yet. There will be time for all…” His voice trailed of as she arched against him. “Jesus Princess. What are you doing?”
“Doing what I know you want me to do?” She nipped at his lip and his knees went weak before he locked them and stared down at her face. He frowned at what he saw.
Instead of her eyes being cloudy with passion they were cool and calculating. He suddenly realized what she was doing. Trying to distract him, and herself, away from what needed to be discussed. She could smell his arousal just as he could smell hers.
Tightening his arms around her he arched her back over his hand. A small smile played around her mouth. Unable to resist he bent down and swiped his tongue along her bottom lip. The taste of her made his mouth tingle.
“Princess?”
“Yes?” she breathed as she closed her eyes.
“If you want to fuck that’s fine but next time make sure it’s me you want and not just a distraction.” He unwrapped his arms from around her and stifled a wince when she hit the ground.
“Next time you’re in my arms I won’t let you go until we both can’t move. Now, let’s talk.”
“Hey pup! What are you doing out here by yourself? Come here little guy. Come here.”
Julius let out a yip as he was picked up and cradled against a warm chest.
Well, at least things are sort of on the way to okay between Caine and Alana. If nothing else, she is now out of the dark, even if she is still in some degree of denial.
OMG WHO HAS JULIUS? Please let it be Greg. Please please please please PLEASE let it be Greg! *trembles in anticipation*

Yeah, she kept making the weirdest faces when I kept wanting her to be serious sooo…I just went with it. I know that I would still be sort of in denial! Everything is being ripped away from her. Kinda sucks! LOL!! And she won’t take kindly to being dropped on her butt! Haha!

Finally Alana gets the truth! LOL at Caine being afraid of her. I am sure hoping that was Greg that brought Julius up to the roof although maybe he found his own way? It could happen…
Oh boy I loved that line of Caine’s…“Next time you’re in my arms I won’t let you go until we both can’t move. Now, let’s talk.” but I do think Alana is still in some sort of denial.

Haha Cherie! Yep! It was about time. They’re going to have to be on the move sometime soon and he wants her a little prepared! She’s stubborn but she’s smart! For sure! It never fails! Those two together means there’s always gonna be some drama going on! They crack me up though! He SO is! He has enough to worry about. He doesn’t need to worry about her doing something that could possibly endanger them even more ya know? Haha! Oh yeah…she can! Just not in that instance! Thanks Nora! That’s one of my favs too! The bad thing about shooting on a roof is that you can’t use OMSPs even with cheats. Or if you can I haven’t figured it out yet! *shrug* So I had to figure out which pose I wanted to go for and use the pause button since my freezer clock was somewhere in that tiny apartment. To get that pic I used ‘goose’ from the flirt menu and just used facial overlays. I didn’t know he was going to look so smoldering though! LOL! Sorry it took me so long to get here. I’m still redoing my blogrolls and finding major holes.
I found this incredibly sweet and touching. Alana’s strange remote and disconnected reaction surprised me – Caine has definitely felt it when she’s angry and upset. She’s not particularly calculating or manipulative so what’s going on?
Also REALLY loved the scene between Nolan and Caine – that was just great! You nail both characters!
Extremely smooth and emotionally clear writing. I loved this one!!!

I love how Caine longs for Alana to just let him be close to her but I think he quite enjoys the front she puts up too. Is there going to be an update soon? I laughed so hard when he dropped her! By the angle of them in the picture, I was thinking, ‘Nah, he wouldn’t do that. Would he?’ And he did! LMAO. Love the tension between them, those two just crackle together! And you certainly never forget what your characters personalities are, Alana’s constant germaphobe ways, her climbing up the ladder and smacking his hands away, so funny!

When I was writing that I head Caine’s voice in my head and had to stifle my own laughter! haha!!
It’s really more of a blind need. If Caine would have gone with the flow he would have gotten laid because she’s in heat and wanting her mate but she would have hated herself in the end. It wasn’t a situation he wanted to find himself in. I don’t blame him. Yeah, calling him Duncaine is a way to keep distance between them!
